The houndstooth pattern is one of Scotland’s oldest weaving traditions—a classic zigzag pattern that, in soft blues and grays, echoes the colors of the Shetland Islands themselves: the blue of the Atlantic and the gray of the basalt cliffs that form the far northwestern tip of Great Britain. This limited edition, made from rare Shetland yarn, is one of the most voluminous and heavily textured blankets in the entire collection.
The Shetland wool used for this blanket comes directly from the Shetland Islands—one of the most remote archipelagos in the United Kingdom, located farther north than Oslo. Houndstooth is one of the oldest and best-known Scottish weave patterns. It originated in the Scottish Borders as a fabric for workwear and Tweed jackets, and today it is one of the most classic patterns in international fashion. The jagged edges are created by a specific weaving process that interlaces two colors.
Shetland wool comes from sheep on the Shetland Islands—one of the harshest and most remote landscapes in Great Britain. The fibers are slightly thicker and more voluminous than regular lambswool, which makes these blankets particularly heavy and warm. Shetland wool is known for its exceptional durability—a true heirloom blanket.
