The Scent of Scotland

Isle of Skye Candle Co. Scented Candles

Product Care

Security

First and foremost: Never leave burning candles unattended. Every year, this causes numerous house fires—make sure yours isn’t one of them!

Second: Check your candle carefully before lighting it. Sometimes even a tiny hairline crack in the glass can cause it to shatter as soon as the candle is lit and the glass heats up. We also recommend that you stop using the candle when only 1 cm of wax remains, as the flame is at its hottest at this point and, without enough wax to burn through, there is a small chance that the glass will be subjected to extreme stress and crack as a result.

Please place candles on a heat-resistant surface and always handle glass containers with care, as they contain an open flame and can become very hot.

Finally, light candles out of the reach of children and pets.

Candle Care

Before lighting or relighting your candle, trim the wick to a length of about 1 cm. This will help your candles burn as long and cleanly as possible.

Please try to light your candle with extra-long matches or a lighter to protect your fingers from burns. Trust us, we’ve burned our fingertips often enough to know better. If you do use long matches, remove any residue, as this can cause soot buildup and further heat the glass.

Place your candle on a flat surface away from drafts so it burns evenly. Let the candle burn for about 3–4 hours so the wax has time to melt all the way to the edge of the glass. This prevents a “tunnel” from forming in the candle and allows you to get the most out of our candles. If you need to extinguish the candle early and the wax has not yet melted to the rim, do not trim the wick the next time you light it, and let the candle burn long enough for the wax to melt to the rim.
