The Scottish Shop was founded in 2020—after I, a Scot, had lived in Germany for six years, during which time one conversation kept coming up time and again: Scotland. The landscape, the friendliness of the people, the products you can’t find anywhere else. My wife and I had these conversations so often that the idea eventually became inevitable—why not actually bring a little piece of Scotland to Germany, instead of just talking about it?

We started out under the name The Heilan Coo —a name with charm, but also with a problem: It was too niche, too hard to find, too much of an inside joke, and not searchable enough. So we decided to be honest with ourselves. We wanted (at least for now) to offer only authentic Scottish products—nothing watered down, nothing generic. The name The Scottish Shop was the logical choice: clear, easy to find, and exactly who we are.

Why Kuuhi?

In 2021, we launched Kuuhi —our own brand, born out of The Heilan Coo but with its own identity. The name is a little nod: a reference to the “cow” that has been with us from the very beginning, reimagined and standing on its own. For Kuuhi , we collaborate with experienced Scottish weavers and manufacturers—some with centuries of craftsmanship tradition—to create products that are sustainable, durable, and unmistakably Scottish. Our Bothy Collection, for example, is woven from 100% recycled lambswool—conscious luxury without compromising on quality or design.

Why only Scottish?

There are larger retailers specializing in British lifestyle products in German-speaking countries. But “British” isn’t the same as “Scottish”—and that’s exactly where our niche lies. Until now, there hasn’t been an online store in Germany dedicated exclusively and with complete devotion to Scottish products—and, perhaps even more importantly, none run by a Scot himself. It’s no coincidence that a young company like ours has managed to hold its own against established providers with decades of history. It shows that a genuine connection to the product and the culture is irreplaceable—no matter how long someone has been in business. We know the artisanal workshops, the stories behind the brands, and the details that distinguish a genuine Fair Isle sweater from a mere imitation—not researched secondhand, but drawn from our own experience.

Anyone who’s ever been to Scotland knows this feeling: the warmth with which you’re welcomed there, whether in a pub, a bed-and-breakfast, or a small village store. This openness and this “nothing is too much trouble” attitude are as much a part of Scotland as the rain and the Highlands. This is exactly the feeling we strive to convey with every interaction—whether it’s a question about the fit of a sweater or a personalized request for a gift. Our Mission

Our textile manufacturers are world-renowned and use only the finest fibers to create exquisite products made from lambswool and cashmere. Equally important to us is friendly, helpful service—replicating here in Germany the feeling you experience in Scotland itself.
