Iona ist die heiligste Insel Schottlands — ein kleines Stück Land vor der Südwestküste von Mull, das seit dem 6. Jahrhundert Pilger aus ganz Europa anzieht. Hier gründete der irische Mönch Columba 563 n. Chr. ein Kloster, von dem aus das Christentum in Schottland und Nordengland verbreitet wurde. Wer heute über den weißen Sandstrand der Insel geht, sieht das Wasser in einem Blau, das man kaum für real hält — ein türkisblauer Schimmer, der durch den weißen Muschelsand unter der Oberfläche entsteht. Beige und Blau. Die Farben Ionas.
