Iona is Scotland’s holiest island—a small piece of land off the southwest coast of Mull that has attracted pilgrims from all over Europe since the 6th century. It was here that the Irish monk Columba founded a monastery in 563 A.D., from which Christianity spread throughout Scotland and northern England.
