Staffa ist eine unbewohnte Insel vor der Westküste von Mull — aus sechseckigen Basaltsäulen aufgebaut, die vor 60 Millionen Jahren durch erkaltende Lava entstanden sind. In der berühmten Fingalshöhle trifft das Atlantikmeer auf diese natürlichen Steinsäulen und erzeugt einen Klang, der Felix Mendelssohn 1829 zu seiner Hebriden-Ouvertüre inspirierte.
