It Isle of Barra is located on the southernmost edge of the Outer Hebrides—where Scotland tapers off into the Atlantic Ocean. It’s known for Traigh Mhòr, the beach that serves as a runway: planes can only land at low tide. And for Kisimul Castle, the stronghold of the MacNeil clan, which sits perched on a small rock in the middle of Castlebay Harbor. It’s one of the last places in Scotland where Scottish Gaelic is still spoken in everyday life.
