Cath Waters Ceramic Coaster: Fishing the Little Minch

The Little Minch (An Cuan Sgitheanach — the Sea of Skye) — the strait between the west coast of the Isle of Skye and the Outer Hebrides. Traditional fishing grounds for centuries: mackerel, herring, lobster, and langoustines. Fishing boats from Uig, Portree , and Mallaig still head out here today. On a clear day, you can see the silhouette of the Outer Hebrides on the horizon—in bad weather, nothing but water and clouds. Cath Waters knows these waters well from her adopted home of Skye and captures them in her linocut style: the shapes of the boats, the open water, the vast sky.
