The Isle of Skye Tartan is not a clanTartan — it is a districtTartan that represents the island itself. It was launched in 1992 following a worldwide competition won by Angus MacLeod of Lewis. The first commercial batches were woven in 1993 at Lochcarron Weavers in North Strome — overlooking the Cuillin Mountains. Lochcarron has been officially designated as the exclusive producer.

The colors are those of the Mist Isle: a soft purple, blue, and green —the colors of heather, the sea, and the hills—the heather on the slopes, the grass in the valleys, the dark rock of the Cuillins. A " Tartan" that bears not a clan’s history, but that of a landscape.

This “Lochcarron ” Extra Fine Merino stole is light as a feather and can be worn year-round.
