Das Isle of Skye Tartan ist kein Clan-Tartan — es ist ein Distrikt-Tartan, der die Insel selbst repräsentiert. Es wurde 1992 durch einen weltweiten Wettbewerb ins Leben gerufen, den Angus MacLeod aus Lewis gewann. Die ersten kommerziellen Mengen wurden 1993 bei Lochcarron Weavers in North Strome gewebt — mit Blick auf die Cuillin Mountains. Lochcarron ist offiziell als exklusiver Produzent ernannt.

Die Farben sind die Farben der Nebelinsel: ein weiches Lila, Blau und Grün — die Farben von Heidekraut, Meer und Hügeln — das Heidekraut der Hänge, das Gras der Täler, das dunkle Gestein der Cuillins. Ein Tartan, der keine Clan-Geschichte trägt, sondern eine Landschaft.
