The Isle of Skye Tartan is not a clan tartan—it is a district tartan that represents the island itself. It was created in 1992 through a worldwide competition won by Angus MacLeod from Lewis. The first commercial batches were woven in 1993 at Lochcarron Weavers in North Strome—with a view of the Cuillin Mountains. The rights to this tartan are held by the registrar, Mrs. Rosemary Nicolson Samios, an Australian of Scottish descent, and Lochcarron is officially designated as the exclusive producer.
