The Macallan 12 Year Old Sherry Oak is a true Speyside classic and one of the world’s most famous single malt Scotch whiskies. It is aged for at least twelve years in hand-selected, sherry-seasoned European oak barrels that were previously filled with Oloroso sherry in Spanish bodegas. This aging process gives it its natural, rich mahogany color—without any artificial coloring.

Questions about this Whisky
"Single malt" means that the Whisky was produced exclusively from malted barley at a single distillery—in contrast to "blended Whisky," which blends whiskies from multiple distilleries and often includes grain whiskey as well. Single malt is considered the most authentic and distinctive form of Scotch whiskey, as it most clearly reflects the unique style of its distillery and region.
Scotland has five traditional Whisky regions: Speyside (fruity, elegant), Islay (smoky, peaty), the Highlands (versatile, ranging from light to full-bodied), the Lowlands (mild, floral), and Campbeltown (salty, maritime). Find out which region this Whisky comes from and what that means for its character in our guide for beginners to Whisky.
It's a matter of personal taste, but most connoisseurs recommend trying single malt neat at first. A few drops of still water can bring out the flavors and mellow the alcohol smell—especially with whiskies that have a higher alcohol content. Ice cubes are generally not recommended, as the cold suppresses the flavors.
