In combed-yarn spinning, the Shetland wool fibers are aligned parallel to one another and spun into a smooth, firm yarn. The warp, made of combed Shetland wool, gives the blanket its fine, smooth sheen; the weft, made of thick Shetland yarn, provides warmth and body. The 50/50 balance of both fibers makes it exceptionally soft—100% spun on the Shetland Islands and woven in Scotland.

In worsted spinning, the wool fibers are aligned parallel to one another and combed before spinning, so that shorter fibers are filtered out. The result is a firm yarn with a subtle sheen that feels significantly different from regular carded wool. Combed-yarn fabrics are lighter and more uniform—and these blankets are exceptionally soft thanks to the combination of combed warp yarn and thick weft yarn.
The wool for these blankets is sheared directly from sheep on the Shetland Islands, spun on the islands, and then woven on the Scottish mainland. No imports, no middlemen—the entire process takes place in Scotland. This is rare for wool products and makes these blankets an authentic “farm-to-fabric” product.
