The Isle of Raasay lies between Skye and the Scottish mainland—a small, remote island that got its first distillery in 2017. Raasay combines maritime saltiness with peaty notes and an unusual aging program: the “ Whisky ” matures simultaneously in three different types of casks— first-fill rye whiskey casks from America (vanilla, spices, and grains), virgin chinkapin oak casks (intense sweetness and butterscotch), and first-fill Bordeaux red wine casks (red fruits and tannic structure). Both peated and unpeated “ Whisky ” is aged in these barrels—the result is a multi-layered island whiskey with a complexity that far exceeds its price.
Aroma: Smoke and sea salt, complemented by vanilla, red fruits, and a hint of ginger. Taste: Peat, butterscotch, cherry, and oak—a maritime depth with surprising sweetness. Finish: Long, smoky, and salty, with a warm, fruity-spicy finish.
