In 1953, Sir Edmund Hillary became the first person to climb Mount Everest. He wore a sweater made of Shetland virgin wool—the same wool used to knit this sweater. The sheep graze near the Voe Cliffs on the Shetland Islands, where they eat seaweed.
The fawn brown of this sweater isn't a color—it's the natural color of the wool. Undyed, untreated, straight from the fleece. The warm, medium brown shade comes from the fawn-brown " Shetland" sheep themselves—the shade between the light beige and the dark chocolate in the collection.
Made in Peterhead, Scotland, knitted by Harley of Scotland since 1929 — two-ply, seamless, in one piece, with an elastic waistband and a classic round neckline. Regular fit.
Also available in beige and chocolate.

Harley of Scotland Care Instructions
We recommend hand-washing your super-fine wool sweater from Harley of Scotland in lukewarm water using a special hand-wash detergent, rinsing it several times in clean, lukewarm water, and then gently squeezing it to remove excess water. Lay it flat on a level surface to dry—and gently reshape it while it’s still damp. If necessary, iron it on a low setting, using a damp cloth to protect your garment. You can also have your sweater dry-cleaned at a specialized dry cleaner.
Do not use bleach or any type of detergent—especially detergents containing optical brighteners (OBAs), as these can damage the delicate wool fibers. Never mix different colors when hand-washing.
Pilling
Soft and luxurious fibers, such as the high-quality wools used in our sweaters, consist of shorter staple fibers that have been gently spun into wool yarn to preserve their luxurious feel and lightness. Therefore, some pilling is to be expected during the initial period. Gently combing the garment with a wool comb will remove the excess fibers, and the pilling will subside as soon as the garment is worn.

Questions about this " Shetland " Sweater
Yes — Chocolate, Beige, and Fawn are not dyes, but the natural colors of various Shetland sheepskins. Chocolate comes from black sheep, Beige from light-colored sheep, and Fawn from sheep with medium-colored coats. The wool is spun directly from the fleece, without any chemical treatment.
Shetland-Sheep graze on the exposed, windy Shetland Islands and feed on seaweed along the coast, among other things. This harsh environment and diet give the wool a particularly dense texture with natural water-repellent properties and excellent thermal insulation—qualities that are virtually impossible to replicate.
Harley of Scotland These sweaters are true to size and have a regular fit. We recommend choosing your usual size. You can find the exact size chart via the color selector at the top of this page.
