Founded in 1816 by John Johnston, the Lagavulin distillery looks back on a tradition spanning more than two hundred years on the historic shores of Islay . This 16-year-old Islay Single Malt is considered the centerpiece of the renowned Classic Malts— a spirit that embodies the character of an entire island. Its exceptional depth stems from the particularly gentle distillation in characteristic onion-shaped stills, as well as the long maturation in a combination of ex-Bourbon and sherry casks.
The bouquet is immediately characterized by intense peaty smoke and a distinct sea breeze with subtle hints of iodine. On the palate, powerful sweet malt, toasted oak, and a hint of heather unfold, elegantly rounded out by fruity “ Sherry ” influences and notes of vanilla. The finish is remarkably long—leaving lingering impressions of dried fruit and the aromatic hint of a dying campfire.
This classic is best enjoyed neat at room temperature, when it truly reveals its full splendor—the ideal choice for lovers of bold, smoky profiles. Comes in gift packaging.
