Corryvreckan is one of the most dangerous ocean whirlpools in the world—a maelstrom between the Scottish island of Jura and the uninhabited islet of Scarba, whose roar can still be heard kilometers away even in calm weather. Ardbeg, the legendary Islay distillery on the island’s south coast, has dedicated its most powerful Whisky to this natural phenomenon—awarded “World’s Best Single Malt ” at the 2010 World Whiskies Awards.
Beneath the surface of this whiskey lie swirling aromas and currents of deep, peaty, peppery flavors. Just like the strudel itself, " Corryvreckan " is not for the faint of heart.
Aroma: Intense, powerful, and heady—tarry ropes, creosote, and linseed oil. Waxy dark chocolate, warm black currants, and muscovado sugar, along with plump cherries, pine needles, and smoky bacon. Menthol, molasses, and chili sauce from deep within.
Flavor: Deep, peppery, and complex—pepper steak, crispy seaweed, black, tarry espresso. Rich dark fruits and bitter almonds. Star anise and hickory dry out the palate before notes of violet emerge.
Aftertaste: Long, deep, and powerful—dark, tarry coffee, chocolate-covered cherries, and spicy pepper sauce.
