Security
Most importantly: Never leave burning candles unattended. Numerous house fires start this way every year – make sure you're not one of them!
Secondly, carefully inspect your candle before lighting it. Sometimes even a tiny hairline crack in the glass can cause it to break once the candle is lit and the glass heats up. We also recommend not using the candle when only 1 cm of wax remains, as the flame is hottest at this point and without enough wax to burn, there is a small chance the glass will be subjected to extreme stress and crack.
Please place candles on a heat-resistant surface and always be careful when handling glasses, as they contain an open flame and can become very hot.
Finally, light candles out of reach of children and pets.
Candle care
Before lighting or relighting your candle, you should trim the wick to a length of about 1 cm. This will allow your candles to burn as long and cleanly as possible.
Please try lighting your candle with extra-long matches or a lighter to protect your fingers from burns. Believe us, we've burned our fingertips often enough to know better. If you do use long matches, remove any residue, as this can cause soot and further heat the glass.
To ensure even burning, place your candle on a flat, draft-free surface. Allow it to burn for approximately 3-4 hours, giving the wax time to melt to the rim of the glass. This prevents a "tunnel" from forming inside the candle and allows you to get the most out of your candle. If you need to extinguish the candle prematurely and the wax hasn't melted completely, do not trim the wick the next time you light it. Simply let the candle burn long enough for the wax to melt completely.
