How to care for your wool blanket.
Lambswool blankets are one of the most popular items in every home. It's easy to understand why, as they are soft and warm, yet difficult to damage or stain. Because wool is naturally breathable, it can wick away moisture, so it only needs to be washed sparingly. This not only extends the life of your blanket, but is also better for the environment.
Follow these simple guidelines to keep your blanket in top condition:
1. Air out regularly
To ensure your blanket stays fresh, it's important that you hang your blanket outside where there is good airflow. Shake your blanket well and then allow the fresh air to loosen any dust or dirt from the blanket.
2. Brush with a soft brush
To keep your blanket in great condition, you need to make sure that the wool fibers remain smooth and all lie in the same direction. Simply lay your blanket on the floor and brush along the grain of the blanket. This will also remove any surface residue or stains from the blanket.
3. Clean liquid stains
Although wool is naturally stain and water repellent, after a few minutes the liquid will begin to soak into the fabric, so clean the stain with a good, reputable, mild wool soap and warm water to remove the stain. Please avoid scrubbing the fabric as the friction this creates can cause pilling. Instead, let the stained area soak up the warm water and detergent and then dab with a soft cloth.
4. Cleaning heavily soiled ceilings
We recommend having our blankets professionally dry cleaned if they are heavily soiled.
Machine washing can cause the blanket to shrink due to heat and become deformed due to the washing machine's spin cycle.
5. Storing wool blankets
When your wool blanket is not in use, we recommend storing it in a dark, cool place, in airtight containers or in a bag. It is also advisable to add a few cedar wood shavings, as cedar wood is a natural flying insect repellent.
6. Treat me well
