tweed
What is a tweed?
Tweed is a textile fabric made of wool, which is said to come from the Scottish word tweel, which is synonymous with the English word twill and describes a type of weave that is called twill in German.
It is important to know that tweed is a fabric and not a pattern like tartan. More precisely, tweed is a quality of fabric that is woven together and is usually made using pure new wool.
How is tweed made?
After the wool is sheared from the sheep, it is washed and dyed to achieve the desired color. Many of these colorful wools are expertly blended to achieve the desired shade, which is then carded (straightened) and spun into yarn that can be used for weaving.
